Theres a kid at my school who tries to dress nicely but hes 5'0 and fat so he just looks dumb as fuck. I do the dark academia shit and he kinda dresses like me but I get complimented regularly on how I dress and I've never once seen nor heard anyone compliment him, I've only ever heard people make fun of him for looking and dressing weird. There is but they're fucking insufferable. Think of retarded pseudo-intellectuals who like to try and act as if they're incredibly intelligent and interesting just because they read crime and punishment, the secret history, and some other philosophical shit (they specifically love to find unknown russian philosophers and then dickride him and act as if they're insanely special and interesting for it). Dark academia subculture is generally dogshit but I like the fashion and home decoration portion of it.
Not really high effort, cheap as fuck too typically. Just thrift a shitton and anything you find that looks old and has earthy tones works, the fashion portion is mainly just about specific pieces of clothing and then basing outfits upon them working together (like literally every other style ig) but mainly focusing on earthy tones. It also helps a lot if you're masculine looking and have a good frame, I dress this way because I like it but women absolutely love it so thats a nice bonus.

I dress dark academia because I like it but I wont refuse to wear anything else just because its not dark academia. I definitely agree, people who overly obsess over their aesthetic are retarded.
