There is no Paradox rather its just that looks becomes subjective around the 5.5 - 7 region of Limbo which is where
most of the ratings begin to fluctuate similar to a Pareto Distribution Chart.
Takes like this are among the lowest-IQ takes on the forum.
Subjectiveness and objectiveness is a philosophical concept that has to do with the existence of a single source of absolute truth, outside of one’s perception, or the lack thereof. Subjectiveness is not a synonym for variance or standard deviation.
- In a hypothetical society where 10% of people think the Earth is a flat disk, 10% of people think the Earth is shaped like a cube, 10% of people think the Earth is shaped like an egg, etc. people disagree but the shape of the Earth is still 100% objective.
- In a hypothetical animal species with no genetic variation, every organism has the exact same brain wiring and nerve cells and thus the exact same sensitivity to pain. They all have the same “opinion” on how painful something feels, but the sensation of pain is a subjective experience nonetheless.
The perception of beauty and the feeling of attraction are subjective. People rate looks based on subjective sensations. However, after the subjective sensation is translated into a number, all math operations that you do on these numbers are objective.
No matter how varied different people’s ratings of a person (e.g. Jordan Barrett) are, the operation of calculating the mean to get the person’s overall looks score is objective.
It is valid to say that the variation among people’s aesthetic preferences has a greater effect at higher levels of conventional-goodlookingness.
It is not valid to say that the subjectiveness or objectiveness of looks ratings differs by looks rating.
