"honourable" death in battle - in todays modern warfare you are being hunted down with a drone controlled by a guy who could be sitting 1000km away from you and for what ? there are no crusades to die for your religion there is no beautifull idea to fight for
In Middle Ages and times before that face to face combat was mostly the only way to face the enemy
Warrior codes were real and ruthlessly enforced :
-Ancient Greece a hoplite who threw away his shield and fled was stripped of civic rights
- European medieval knight who broke oath murdered a surrendered foe or fled the field could be degraded in a public ceremony expelled from his order or even excommunicated
The soldiers were promised something after it ended or they died
Crusader knight Heaven
Viking a place in Valhalla
Fallen Greek solider could have become a hero with a cult
The extension of life at any cost - with present-day medicine a half dead men with advanced alzheimer who can't recognize anyone , doesn't know where he is and lost the ability to communicate is being kept alive while being fed through a tube
You are being kept in this state of being between life and death even up to 5 years without your consent because you don't have a free will and all of your dignity was taken away from you
Keeping the body alive while mind is not properly working is not rescuing but a condemnation to torment
In some cases staying alive is not bravery its self-torture
suicide is not cowardice
Since there is no possibility in modern days for men to die a tragic death suicide seems like the only right way to taste eternal rest on your own terms and without the loss of dignity
