Hello everyone,

I‘ve been told by my dentist that i might have to get lefort 1 + bsso and a MSE for narrow dental arches in my maxilla. I don’t have a dental underbite because my teeth compensate by slightly sitting further on the top. My teeth are pracitally on top of eachother and i do have difficulties biting down on food and such, Im also experiencing difficulties with chewing on my right side because my teeth are more inward on that side. That being said I want to go about this as aesthetically as possible, I dont think I look too bad or am severely recessed, but Ive seen people get botched by their surgeons on Lefort because they are only going for functionality. Im also hoping

What do you guys think is the smartest thing to do?

seems like a reasonable dentist

before surgery teeth are decompensated, so that any compensation that has happened is removed
decompensation in simple terms means moving teeth such, that the "diagnosis" you have (like underbite) is made as "bad" as it can, so that during surgery it can be fixed skeletally

impossible for anyone to say without seeing anything

Beard is for religious purposes. My lower third is incredibly weak from the front an the least defined in my face. Otherwise I do feel I have pretty OK bone structure. If I can get pictures of my teeth without it looking corny ill send those too. IMG 3260

sure, you can also go the orthodontic route, if it's possible, but it should be since your bite is not off by so much that the teeth could not be moved, but that something to discuss with the orthodontist
DJS is an invasive surgery, and doing it when it would not benefit makes no sense

Am i recessed? And if so by alot?

but be aware that the mouth position is significantly affected by the tilt of the incisors, so a movement on them (the orthodontic compensation) could change it's appearance (ofc not to the degree that a DJS would).
