Was reading about the primary causes of death for soldiers during WW2. Getting killed by other soldiers (gunfire etc) only accounted for about a third of the deaths. Between 60-70% of deaths were the result if indirect weapons fire such as artillery and mortar fire, aircraft bombing etc. So basically the large majority of deaths are the result of something that you can do absolutely nothing to prevent or predict at all. And this was WW2. In modern times it would probably be even higher. Infantry at this point is just a glorified police force. Surviving a battle is basically a lottery with no skill involved. So much for all of that combat training LOL!
