Surviving a war is just luck with barely any skill involved

Was reading about the primary causes of death for soldiers during WW2. Getting killed by other soldiers (gunfire etc) only accounted for about a third of the deaths. Between 60-70% of deaths were the result if indirect weapons fire such as artillery and mortar fire, aircraft bombing etc. So basically the large majority of deaths are the result of something that you can do absolutely nothing to prevent or predict at all. And this was WW2. In modern times it would probably be even higher. Infantry at this point is just a glorified police force. Surviving a battle is basically a lottery with no skill involved. So much for all of that combat training LOL!

Just fucking lol at thinking there is any honor in getting blown up by artillery fire for your piece of shit country.

Countries have to uphold the idea that soldiers are very honorable to actually get people to become soldiers.

Or else they’d have no option but to draft people on a mass scale, which will no doubt be seen poorly by the general population. Which will force whoever is in charge to either stop drafting or they’ll surely lose their power in the next election to someone who will.
