both will be good to lose fat and gain a little muscle, both great for athletic performance
 
Both... But if you are young, I would recommend swimming... I swimming for about 3 years from 7 to 10 yo and it gave me really wide shoulders, also a lot of muscle mass in the back... Brock Lesnar used to train MMA underwater, so you can do both at the same time!
