Just a theory but the same hormones that play a role in height can also cause subhuman facial features. Since height in this case is genetic these people have genes that give them high levels of igf1 and hgh and after they stop growing the hormone levels are still in the upper range, causing potentially ugly faces. This can be observed in extremely tall people with gigantism or acromegaly who almost always have ogre looking faces.
