Teeth advice

Okay i need advices for what to do with my teeth.
I have currently terrible teeth with some cavities and some of them are crooked.
I also have a narrow palate and an overbite.
I went to the dentist and he said i should put some braces on. but i read here they could cause jaw recession during puberty (im 18 almost). Should i go to an orthodontist first?
Help please.

it causes jaw and maxilla recession but in a good way it will actually make you look better and give you a chad side profile
