When an individual typically posts about his vibrant social life (if he has one), he is usually derided and called a 'fakecel', even if he is romantically unsuccessful regardless. The same usually applies if the individual possesses other positive markers, including but not limited to being revealed to have average to above-average looks, having previous romantic experience, being socially and/or financially successful, etc. This is vaguely reminiscent of the 'failed normie'/in-group designation dichotomy often used in other communities.
The typical self-proclaimed incel is an adolescent or young adult male who has average to below-average looks, comes from a medium to low socio-economic background, and possesses little to no social capital. The individual may also exhibit dysfunctional mental pathologies or disorders, and have suffered from physical or mental trauma in the past.
