Women do not see the majority of men as worth reproducing with and are not having children with them anymore. This cultural shift has been dramatic which is why older generations do not understand it. The answer is simple; however, it is controversial — so the mainstream media does not report honestly on fertility rates.

Fertility decline is actually the most natural consequence of development when you have better education especially for women, access to birth control, rising cost of raising children etc but it’s not a sign of collapse.
