STEM + Medicine is recommended everywhere because it provide high financial security on average , almost every engineer/doctor can get employed someway but among say social studies and other humanities field only top small percent will be successful , on average they will have shit tons of people employed or teaching primary school kids.

Also historicaly subjects that involve problem solving are associated with musculanity.

For the social aspect i.e going out to clubs and living with housemates is priceless . Also its free in the UK you don't really pay for it yourself.
