Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and androgens like testosterone affect the body differently, which explains the variation in water retention and its distribution.

### **1. Mechanism of Water Retention:**
- **HGH:**
- HGH promotes the production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which can lead to increased sodium retention and, consequently, water retention. HGH also affects renal function, which can cause the body to retain more water.
- The water retention associated with HGH often accumulates in the soft tissues, including the face, due to increased extracellular fluid volume. This can lead to the characteristic "puffy" face often associated with HGH use.

- **Androgens:**
- Androgens like testosterone can lead to water retention through their effects on the kidneys, particularly by increasing the reabsorption of sodium and water. However, androgens tend to cause more generalized water retention, which is distributed throughout the body, including the muscles, rather than just in soft tissues like the face.
- The facial water retention from androgens might not be as prominent because androgens often lead to a more balanced distribution of water throughout the body, sometimes leading to a more muscular, fuller appearance rather than just puffiness in the face.

### **2. Differences in Tissue Affinity:**
- **HGH** tends to affect soft tissues more, leading to a pronounced effect in areas like the face where soft tissues are abundant.
- **Androgens** have a stronger effect on muscle tissues, promoting protein synthesis and water retention within the muscles. This might reduce the visibility of facial puffiness compared to the more noticeable muscle fullness.

### **3. Hormonal Influence:**
- HGH has a different hormonal influence compared to androgens. While both hormones can lead to water retention, the mechanism and the tissue types they predominantly affect differ, leading to the different patterns of water retention you've observed.

In summary, HGH tends to cause more water retention in the face due to its effect on soft tissues and extracellular fluid volume, while androgens generally cause a more even distribution of water retention, including in the muscles.

human tldr = bloat from hgh mainly just goes to your face and makes you look fat whereas androgen bloat makes you look more “full” in your muscles, the water from hgh you don’t want and the water from androgens puff up your body and masseters
