I've read a few books from this era. The british were respected throught out the continent and were considered to be among the most powerful people in europe but after globalization it all changed. All people think about when they hear an English man now is an ugly alcoholic buck teeth football hooligan these days.
The English nation is the only one on earth that has succeeded in moderating the power of kings by resisting them, and who, by a series of struggles, have at last established that wise government where the prince is all-powerful to do good, and, at the same time, is restrained from committing evil
Thomas Jefferson
The English are predisposed to liberty. The moment they lose their rights, they strike for it, and it is because of this that they have more liberty and prosperity than any other nation
Otto von Bismarck
The Englishman is like a bull. He charges at you head down, and he won’t let go until he has won or lost
Napoleon Bonaparte
We are two great nations, but we must recognize that the English, with their navy and their commerce, hold the destiny of the world in their hands.
