I see a lot of people use the term ethnic tax to describe the idea that your smv is lowered because you are of a minority (read: non white) race. While I believe this is true in general (in the west at least) I think it lacks one key concept.
It’s not just -0.5, -1, -2 point on whatever scale because you are curry in a european country or whatever. Rather, it just sets a bar, a minimum requirement that is higher than for example the native race.
Think about our perceptions of women from other races. Black women are particularly interesting, because they face this tax from men from every race. When you are swiping, or in a social setting and see a black woman, you aren’t thinking -1 point, you are thinking is she attractive enough compared to what I usually go for? I believe this is usually lite+.
This is especially brutal for certain ethnic groups and their men. Most of them will simply never reach this bar to be considered, and are instead just immediately discarded just by stereotypes of race (which are often earned…). Unless you are a chad of that race, which is already really rare, there is little hope.
