As for the second German Reich, it was amazing how fast they crushed the French in the 1870-71 war. Sadly their territory was never at Empire level due to British and French colonial dominance.

I would hardly call India in the 18th century underdeveloped. It (well, the many different Indian states combined) had the largest economy in the world back then and had developed a big manufacturing economy under the Mughals.

I never said it was a military superpower. But do keep in mind the Indians in the Mysore Wars actually defeated the British in battle many times, so they weren't necessarily militarily weak.
