Honestly maybe i'm wrong on this but the reason this rethoric exists is only because one of the sides, in 90% of the cases, is willing to receive more backlash, and therefore the other person feels comfortable with that mattress always below you to fall on
With the current soyciety, no one is raised to accept any kind of backlash therefore this kind of relationship is almost unheard off. Everyone is considered fantastic by who he is and the notion says that there is no need for improvement unless it fits the capitalist interest based machine and so on.
There are actually some couples that look almost perfect. They probably have their own problems and what i mention about backlash above applies in private but there are this kind of people that just don't feel the necessity to fight or insult or humilliate. They exist and you have to really provoke them to fall into that trap, and i guess if a man find that exact profile of women (And they like eachother) then he actually hit the jackpot.
