His popularity is unexistent if not straight hated in Iran. Only few diaspora atheists worship him who were the same ones expelled when he was kicked out. I've been informing myself about the situation. Iranians are a strange people just like the rest of the world, they could insult the entire country's leadership yet they have some Khomeini or Khamenei pic in the car and slogans of Ali and shiism and so on, they are not a monolith just like almost no one is. The IR is not popular (30% more or less) but they don't want the Shah, and with economic growth they would just not care anyways who rules them, which is imminent with the growth of BRICS and the summit being this month.
