Yes, they are completely free.
But not enough, the state pays you to study. 861 € per month + you can do a so called "Mini 450 € job". If you work one day per week, you will receive € 1,311 tax-free per month on your bank account. That's more than a lot of people make when they work full-time on a minimum wage (€ 1146 after tax). You have to repay 50% of the loan but it is very mild, just a few years after graduation only if you have a good payed job and so on. So all in all, the state gives you over € 5k as a present per year, not to mention the cost of free universities.

There are so many ways to make good, legal money, fast. Especially when you are free and have no responsibility in a real job/family/gf.

I know people who worked for 3 months on a cruise ship or on a large fishing trawler. Almost no expenses, food and other things are free. You go out with a few thousand euros in your pocket.

I remember a post from you saying that you are currently living in a hostel. But even if you have an apartment right now, getting someone for "Untermiete" in your city should be pretty easy. I went to Latin America for half a year and did the same. So no costs for living/internet/ electricity and you could cancel/pause the contract for public transport aswell if you work abroad for a few months (Sonderkündigungsrecht). Then you go on a cruise ship and work there for 3 months without any expenses. A friend of me did that as I said.

You need to pursue a career path man or else you'll end up feeling like shit more and more. You don't wanna be 30+ without having built a career and working min wage like "Just James". Looks aren't everything and making the decision to pursue a sustainable path financially & holistically will be something you won't regret in the future.

A good book about appreciating time/process and not making bad decisions for your long-term is "Antifragile" by Nassim Taleb. It's not directly about finance or looksmaxing or anything but it's really a great source to create ideas and conclusions that you'll benefit from greatly.

I want to fix my looks first. I feel way too uncomfortable with my appearance to go outside and achieve anything meaningful. It's what has held me back all my life. Ignoring my looks and pursuing a career in constant crippling shame would only make me more miserable than I already am. I feel like once I'm at least not ashamed of my face anymore, I could be much more productive and finally get something done in my life
