Photos are 2 dimensional and reality is 3 dimensional. So photos accentuate angular faces and basically all the strengths you have, but they also accentuate all your weaknesses too. So if you capture the wrong angle, it project a face which is unrecognisable to the one you know IRL.
That's why chads look even better on camera and kinda good looking guys like the OP CAN look average in some, with the wrong lighting and angle.. Average guys on camera just look ugly.
This is the way it works.
