He was indeed a freemason, but the SS and SA etc were forbidden from entering masonic lodges
Masonic lodges were eventually forbidden and all their documents in libraries and such confiscated
Reinhard Heydrich specifically was very outspoken against the jewish-mason connection and was also coincidentally the only top nazi official who was assassinated(by government) during WW2..

I think Hitler wouldn't have risen to power unless he played their game, he played along, got their help and then stood up against them once he had enough power to challenge the powers that be

I've thought about the controlled opposition theory, that they would make the german people rise again after their absolutely soul crushing defeat in WW1 to have them totally vanquished with the end of the WW2, leading them never to rise again. First theory makes more sense all things considered
