Introduction: Why Red Light

A lot of people spend a lot on topicals to improve their skin, but most of these products never make it past the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of dead skin cells). If you really want to improve skin thickness, collagen density and overall smoothness you need to go deeper.

Red Light Therapy (RLT), makes use of specific wavelengths (630nm–850nm), where we are essentially "feeding" our cells light to optimize energy production.

The Science: How it works

To understand how RLT works we need to look at the mitochondria (the powerhouses of our cells). The process centers on a enzyme called CCO (Cytochrome C Oxidase). When your cells are under stress (due to inflammation or UV) Nitric Oxide binds to the CCO Enzyme. This causes the blockage of oxygen and slows down the cellular engine. When you apply Red Light (660nm) or Near-Infrared (850nm), the photons are absorbed by the CCO. This light energy physically kicks the Nitric Oxide off the enzyme. Once the NO is gone, Oxygen can bind again and start the Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP=primary energy currency of all living cells).

More ATP=more energy for collagen production

Before and Afters

AAD says that research suggests red light therapy can help

  • reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • lighten dark spots
  • smooth skin texture
  • diminish redness
  • accelerate wound healing (such as diabetic ulcers or slow-healing injuries)
  • boost hair regrowth
  • minimize scars
  • ease acne.

My Experience

Protocoll
  • Everyday in the morning
  • 20 min (First lower frequency and in the end higher)
  • No serums or anything beforehand

12 Week Result

Week 1-4: No real differences noticeable, maybe slightly less redness
Week 5-10: Skin tone became more even, no more redness and impurities vanished twice as fast
Week 11-12: Skin just feels more thick and bouncy, Sleep Deprivation lines also a lot better.

The Product I use:
Aliexpress Redlight Therapy Mask

Conclusion:
Redlight is a great invention and can be used in various other procedures, like hair (No need for me yet:p), but for skin quality and fixing the dermis, it is easily the most efficient tool in the game. You just have to be consistent and not expect magic after two days. The results are legit.

Dnr low effort post.

I re read it, its okay. Just not evidence for anything you claimed. But yea it works just don't expect any drastic results.

If you combine this with once a week dermarolling the collagen and elastin boosting effects will stack with the red light therapy, very useful to bank collagen for later age
