I saw this overcoat a year ago at the duty-free shop. Similar to the one in the picture but with even better fabric and more vintage design It was absolutely stunning. The color was caramel and it was 100% wool, which is rare since most overcoats I’ve seen are blended with cheap polyester or acrylic. I never owned a overcoat so I tried it on, the fit was perfect, it draped beautifully over my shoulders and chest. The caramel color also made it versatile, easy to pair with almost anything. It was expensive but despite the price tag I liked it so much that I decided to buy it. Thinking I'd get a lot of use out of it.

It's still sitting in my wardrobe, just as beautiful as ever, but now collecting dust. I forgot to consider that I live in a hot tropical shithole slum and not in Saville Row in London. It’s far too warm to wear in this environment except during peak winters, and even then, I’d end up sweating. Plus, it’s such a formal and eye-catching piece that wearing it to air-conditioned offices feels over-the-top. I still try to wear it and I did I get a ton of compliments the handful of times I've worn it but for the price I paid it wasn't worth it at all. Brutal mistake

How much could you resell it for? Can you recoup any losses?

I'm not sure but I do know clothes lose a shit ton of value once they are bought. Maybe I could sell it for a few hundred dollars on ebay.

Just don't ever try to go for the old-money style if youre below 35-40 it seems cool when youre spending thousands upgrading your wardrobe but a few months later you'll realize what a dumb mistake it was

What was your worst purchase
I can't think of anything specific.

I view everything from a learning mindset. I have a model of the world that I use to conclude an optimal way to spend my resources (time/money/energy).

Sometimes by spending my resources I discover my the model of my world is off, I update my model of the world which updates how I spend my resources.

As an example, at one point in my life I had money in mutual funds. This was before I knew that mutual funds were a bad investment. For a while before that I had most of my money in cash, before I fully understood how exponentially destructive inflation is to cash.

Both of those were bad purchases.

I didn't sell the top of the last crypto market cycle. I had a model and sell indicators that I was looking at, my model of the financial markets and the sell indicators I chose were based on my theories about the world from my own thinking and books I had read, but those turned out to be incorrect. So when the market crashed before expected, I updated my model of the world.

I guess if a bad purchase is considered any sub-optimal expenditure of time, money, or energy based on an incorrect model of the world, I suppose my entire life is littered with those, including perhaps spending too much time on this site.
