They’re great for the social aspect, the sense of community that comes from organized abrahamic religion is something atheists got rid of without replacing it with anything, which is detrimental

Religions also stop people from doing all sorts of destructive behaviors like drug addiction, or in Christianity’s case it stops mass shootings. (Muslims commit terrorism a decent amount ngl)

Well there’s plenty of Christians who end up addicted to things, the human mind is very good at convincing itself that “no no no, it’s okay when *I* do it.”

I will say though, from the OTHER end, addicts that convert to Christianity it does seem to have a positive effect there in helping them get and stay clean (though that might just be because of things like 12 step which are notoriously Christian flavored, it would be easy to make the argument that the program itself is what’s helping them get and stay clean and them becoming christians is just a side effect of the program itself being christian themed), I just think it’s less effective the other way around (christians becoming addicts rather than addicts becoming christian)

Why don't Hindus go around and preach to spread their religion like other faiths do - 'Hello sir, have you accepted Lord Shiva as your savior?'.
