There's a difference between a long midface and a horse face, the white guy has a long midface, while the lightskin guy has a horseface.

When you have a horse face it appears like your lower face is protruding outwards in a way, while if you have a long midface your face is simply a little longer than ideal.

Why one looks like a horse, and the other looks "normal" i think has a connection to the forward growth of your face.

The lightskin guy's face is clearly downswung and recessed, while the white guy's face seems more forward grown and his eyes a little deeper set, there's also something about lightskin's cheekbones adding on to the horse face appearance.

Assuming you have a long midface, maybe a downswung maxilla coupled with a recessed chin = horseface, and a forward grown maxilla coupled with a normally grown chin = long midface.

What do you guys think?

it's just the angle, at least on the 2nd pic

horseface isn't caused by the mid-face, it's caused by unequal facial thirds.

if you have a really small forehead and a really long lower third you will still look like you've got a horse-face even if your mid-face is by all metrics normal.

here's an example.
