Friendship Stats On This Forum
A recent survey conducted on forum members concluded that over 50% of the survey participants considered themselves to have 0 IRL friends which they talked to on a weekly basis. This reveals a certain social isolation from the world amongst forum members. See here for source.
This isolation can often leave people feeling unworthy, unimportant and under-appreciated as a person. Lack of connections with others almost always leads to forms of depression or other mental illness and without a fix, could ultimately lead to suicide. The point is, a lack of meaningful social connections is a net negative for your mental health.
Healthy Cope
If you think about it, there are no legitimate 'healthy copes' to replace human interaction. The only effective solution which won't have a negative impact on your life is human interaction. This so important social interaction is of course unobtainable in real life for a good proportion of forum members as mentioned prior. Of course naturally, many flock to the Internet, as place where you're not dehumanised for the way you look. The only thing lacking from this solution is the fact that there are no people similar to us on vast majority of the internet. This is where forums like this one come in.
Most people here are similar in: age, objective, ideology, life experiences, humour, upbringing. This is the ideal brewing pot for genuine connections with others, pair this with the fact you can voice what you believe, share things you would be hesitant to share with others IRL and are actually able to tell people how you feel. This is overall much better for your mental health than jestering in a sorry attempt to make others like you. This to say, the forum fills the gap of isolation to a great extent (granted not fully).
Overall, it's not better than real friends, but it's better than isolating yourself from humans as a whole, or living a complete lie all the time. This community should cherished and not put under a bad light because it brought you to the realisation you were never worthy of human interaction.
Severely sleep deprived so this will probably turn out shit. I will wakeup when you go to bed and will probably cringe at this.
Muh i regret writing but spent to long to delete. Viola
