Because it's dark souls 3: the expansion, but it's a really big game == repetitive. This is the most similar game to a previous entry. Excessive reuse of enemies (even bosses) padding out the game.

Souls style scaling/leveling system doesn't mesh well with heavy open-worldness, players will face bosses that are too easy or too hard (for a new player) frequently, purely from scaling discrepancy. Most of the enemies are derivative and almost identical in terms of mechanics and strategy to win.

They spammed multi-enemy boss fights that aren't interesting, the strategy is either abuse parry or magic, or kite and poke tediously.

Horse combat does not feel good and they didn't design fights around it properly, also not a single memorable fight that requires horse combat. This is one of the biggest 'misses' of the game.

They left the npc interaction and questing basically identical to previous games, it works less well in an open world that already feels a little shallow and empty. There are almost no interesting side quests.

tl;dr: repetitive and virtually no innovation -- mostly quantity over quality.
