The world transitioned from matriarchy through patriarchy to androgyny. The past religions exemplify this. When humanity first noticed that birth was given by the woman, religions started adoring the female archetype.
No wonder this piece of art that represents fertility was crafted during the paleolithic:
Think about it: Why did ancient Pagans refer to nature as Mother Nature?
Thousands of years forward, something changed. Humanity discovered that men are crucial in the birth of children. The male figure became prominent and religions started pedestalizing it.
This is when patriarchal religions became powerful, such as Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, the first two of which had an enormous impact around the globe.
Why did these religions lose influence? Because humanity is living in a new era. The new aeon. The age of aquarius. Now both the female and male figure are important. And this reflects even in the fashion and looks of today's people.
Guys experiment with more female styles like long hair and girls experiment with more male-appealing styles like gothic/alternative looks. Men are not 100% manly and women are not 100% feminine anymore. It's a combination of both.
