There's this company that recently sent me an e-mail. I didn't apply for it. I don't even know how they got my email. They basically directly gave me an offer for their low effort fully remote job. It's basically more or less ChatGPT cut copy paste type role that I usually dnrd because they are low wages and I like Intellectually stimulating work
But here's the kicker and why I'm posting: I think this is a perfect snapshot of how tech remote work, and outsourcing are gutting low tier low level entry level white collar careers in countries like the UK.
It is Fully Remote with annual Salary: INR 8,00,000 CTC (Approx. Β£7,600 - Β£8,500 GBP).
For the Employer. They get a fully trained employee for a salary that is okaish in India, but 70-75% cheaper than what they'd have to pay the equivalent junior employee in Manchester (where this role starts at ~Β£25k-Β£30k). They also baited by promising to raise your salary to Β£20k within a year and
This is how Mr John average in UK loses his job and stays unemployed.. Never grinded in Uni and just coasted through and now has to fight for these low paying roles. The low tier entry level roles that used to be given locals(e.g., junior support, basic admin are being replaced by global, remote roles that are competitively paid in their local market (India, Philippines, Eastern Europe) but are a fraction of the cost for the Western company.
This is what real exploitation looks like. Not the offers at Amazon or MAANG or American companies that I work at but these low level roles. If I accepted this job some bloke in Manchester in losing his job.
