I spent most of my life feeling dull and bitter, until one night when I was around 20, smoking weed and watching YouTube at night, I stumbled across some old Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown episodes and tuned in. I fell in love with the melting pot of cultures and later that year I booked a flight to Chiang Mai in Thailand (off a minimum wage job), which was the furthest I’ve ever gone from home. During my time there, I laughed, made friends despite usually not being social, trained and watched Thai boxing, ate in poor family owned restaurants, and I felt a great deal of hope for my life. Since then I’ve fell in love with travel and experiencing different cultures, and I haven’t felt insecure about my looks or other superficial things in the same way that I used to since this switch happened.

If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody.
Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.
