I was telling my mom about how I wanted to get prescribed Pregabalin/Lyrica for social anxiety and she told me that she’d rather me take Cbd gummies. Are Cbd gummies actually effective and do they have any negative effects?

TLDR: Yes they are fine to take but make sure you're not neglecting the basics. I've explained in a bit of detail below an instance where you should not take cbd, but for the most part - yes it's fine. Just take into account cost efficiency and potency.

CBD can definitely take the edge off for some people, especially when it comes to sleep or general relaxation, but it’s not a guaranteed fix for social anxiety. The research on CBD for anxiety is still pretty limited, and the effects vary a lot from person to person. Some feel calmer, while others notice very little. Gummies and drinks are also expensive if you’re using them regularly, and since they’re not tightly regulated, the actual dose and quality can be hit or miss.

So while CBD might be worth trying in a low, occasional dose, it’s not necessarily more effective or safer than a prescribed medication that’s been properly studied for anxiety. It comes down to how severe the anxiety is and whether you’re looking for a mild, natural helper or something that reliably works day-to-day. Make sure you're using the gummies in conjunction with a good base. What I mean by a good base is having adequate sleep, sunlight exposure and all of the basics. People do neglect this and you may think it's retarded to mention but if you haven't got the basics down then no drug will magically fix you in this context.

If you're taking antidepressants, or any other meds that are processed in the liver, CBD can interfere with how well those meds work. That’s because CBD is broken down by the same liver enzymes (called CYP450) that handle a lot of prescription drugs. If CBD is in the mix, it can “clog up” the system and either slow down or speed up how your other medication gets processed.

That means one of two things can happen:

  1. Your medication stays in your system longer than it should, making side effects stronger (like with blood thinners or epilepsy meds).
  2. Or it gets cleared too quickly, which makes the medication less effective (like with some antidepressants).

On top of that, higher doses of CBD have been linked to elevated liver enzymes, which is basically a sign that the liver is under extra stress. If you’re already taking something that affects the liver, combining it with CBD could add to the strain.

:feelsgood: If you found this answer informative at all, please consider marking it down as a solution >>>>>>>

In terms of my own personal anecdote, I've taken cbd gummies, cbd drinks and also smoked cbd flower - I noticed some mild effects which benefitted me but personally there are better alternatives. It's more-so used as a "pick-me-up" and not a super effective solution. I'd say give it a go, granted it isn't an interference to any other meds you're on.
