I wrote out a nigga this reply. It got a little too big. So here is the thread to be very bleunt IB atleast in the US from what I have seen wout a target school and stacked internships is pretty much impossible like I have never seen it. like the whole IB pipeline is dominated by kids from top 3 schools Wharton, Harvard, Stern, maybe throw in Booth or Columbia too if ur lucky. these ppl started networking freshman yr, did like 2 finance internships before junior summer and already had a return offer lined up before u even learned what a DCF is. if ur from a non-target or even a semi-target wihnoy experience ur chances at BBs or elite boutiques are basically 0. and even with daddy's connections or being born blue blooded itβs still dicey af.
ur only real shot is grinin it out at a boutique or regional IB that calls itself an βinvestment bankβ but does like dental practice M&A and pitches 20 slide decks a week that never close comp? maybe $2.5k/month if ur lucky full-time? $55k w/ no bonus.
The only way is the MBA route. but even if u get into HBS or Wharton uβll be competing with ex-analysts from JPM PE dudes and even if u do break in, be ready for 80-90hr weeks MDs yelling bc ur font wasnβt Arial 12. Yes you won't be sitting in front of a computer and writing code or breaking your head crunching number but you will be brain fucked in other ways. So it is not an easy way ot making 6 figures.
IB in america my experience is literally one of the most gatekept soul crushinf industries there is to put it bluntly . Maybe in europe it is much easier to get into private equity and studf I wouldn't know.
