They are both right and wrong.

You don’t want to cold approach women; 99% of the time you will be rejected (unless you are chad), it’s ridiculously hard work and can also be embarrassing.

You want to hot approach. This is when the woman has already shown interest (looking at you a couple of times, smiling, openly flirting).

All in all, you need to be above their looks threshold. The higher above that threshold you are, the less you’ll need to rely on personality, confidence, being witty, etc.

TL;DR

Keep looksmaxxing and only approach women when they show interest first.

You can have moderate success doing cold approach if you are in the 6/10 range by hitting on looksmatched girls, occasionally girls above you. Game, confidence and personality are a must.

Doing it as a 7/10 means success is pretty near. You won't score at any approach but you are guaranteed to succeed in a matter of time.

The better looking and socially adjusted you are, the higher your chances would be and the lesser you'd fail. Thing is, cold-approaching is by nature something hard but if you got what it takes (looks & confidence) you can play the game and make it work.

On the other hand, a sub 5 must absolutely never take part to this game. It's gonna crush your self-esteem and cause irreversable damages to your soul. Yes, even the better looking dudes get rejected but generally not for the same reason (their rejections is either due to the fact that the girls they are approaching aren't available whereas they reject you because they aren't attracted to you and they make it you know in the most nasty and evil way possible).
