Is there any proof that improper tongue posture can cause one to become more recessed and downswung after puberty, or at all?

there's a study on monkeys proving it

" Several clinical studies have shown that posteriorly directed extraoral forces applied to the maxillary first molars can inhibit or redirect the growth of the maxilla."

" He reported that in the experimental group the maxilla rotated in a clockwise fashion as a result of its growth in a downward and backward direction as compared to downward and forward growth in control animals. Similar results have been reported by other investigators”

At what age though?

after puberty it doesn’t matter unless you’re mouthbreathing
improper tongue posture doesn’t recess you, it just allows maxilla to grow naturally and maxilla naturally growth downwards. Mouthbreathing is actively recessing you,

Think about it like this. If you consistently hunch your back over, you will get persistent back problems, correct? Now apply that to your maxilla, and realize that the facial bones are far more malleable (both in masticatory development windows and direction of growth) during your youth and imagine the effects just letting your mouth (point of reference of lower maxilla) hang all the time and not raising your hyoid to hold up your lower third.
