My old hamster once escaped out of his cage and was found in the morning scratching around on the floor near his cage, after walking to my parents room in the night where they heard him scratching and thought it was a mouse, and returning back to my room.

I still don't know how he escaped, cos there was a latch at the top of the cage but I never left it open. Also even if I did, he would've had to climb up the bars and then climb upside down to the opening
