India has two ancient roots
The authors say that almost every person in India today has ancestry from two very old and distinct groups:
- Ancestral North Indians (ANI) – These people were related to Europeans, Middle Easterners, and Central Asians.
- Ancestral South Indians (ASI) – These people were not related to any population outside India. They're genetically unique.
Nobody today is “pure” ANI or ASI
Everyone today is a mix of these two groups in different proportions.
- Upper castes and North Indian groups have more ANI ancestry.
- South Indian groups and tribal communities tend to have more ASI ancestry.
- The Andaman Islanders are closest to pure ASI, with no ANI ancestry at all.
Indian diversity is ancient and deep
The study found that:
- Indian population groups are very genetically diverse.
- That’s because for thousands of years, people in India mostly married within their own group or caste (endogamy).
- This created many small, genetically distinct sub-populations.
some genetic diseases are more common in certain groups because of this long-term isolation.
Reconstructing Indian Population History - PMC
India has been underrepresented in genome-wide surveys of human variation. We analyze 25 diverse groups to provide strong evidence for two ancient populations, genetically divergent, that are ancestral to most Indians today. One, the “Ancestral ...

there is a reason why people in india have a specific illness in their bloodline
marrying within ur own group is killing the laws of nature
I am trying to say that India’s population is made up of two ancient groups — ANI and ASI — and all modern Indians are a mix of them. Due to caste and endogamy, Indian genetics is super diverse and complex
