Retinoids at night + Vitamin C Serum in the day. Of course sunscreen too.

if the vitamin C doesn't work then look into hydroquinone

does retinol make that big of a difference?

Retinol does help but honestly it's pretty weak, meaning it takes significantly longer to have an effect. I believe retinol is very often overpriced for the strength it has.

I would use adapalene 0.1% instead, way stronger, faster results. That's the strongest over-the-counter retinoid there is.

Yeah that seems reasonable, I personally just clean my face in the morning with water and a cleanser at night, vitamin c serum and sunscreen in the day, adapalene and moisturizer at night (previously tretinoin)
