Have you ever been put off by another person so hard that it made you question your loneliness?
It's embarrassing to admit this, but I think that I was someone who wasn't reciprocating socially way too many times for me to pretend like I'm this tragic figure condemned to drifting the universe all by my lonesome.
Part of it is me knowing that it could never lead anywhere real, part of it is me not being sure if this friendliness is really something that I should take as something that I desperately want.
If loneliness in its most strict definition is a problem to you then you can just buy tons of booze and go to the nearest homeless shelter–popularity isn't hard.
