In the follow-up to my previous post about how my gang affiliated friend set me up and jumped me

I went to the hospital to see what damages had been done to my face

Beside muscle pain and a small fracture in my orbitals underneath my left eye it wasn’t too bad

However when I told them I was assaulted the hospital reported it to the police on my behalf (im stupid should’ve just told them I’ve already reported it) and they got me to accept the police to show up at my house in a few days. I told the hospital a completely fake story about an attempted robbery by masked men.

When I left the hospital, I cancelled the appointment and the police said I can come to the station instead. They asked me what day and time I said Saturday and then the time,

I then got a text telling me the appointment at my home was cancelled

I however did not get a text about the station meeting so I thought maybe I could try skipping it. I thought I could say I was sick if I called and asked me why I didn’t come.

Now I got a text giving me a “crime number” and telling me they will tell me the next steps to confirm starting the investigation.

Now I don’t know what to do, I can’t lie to the police especially because they can see CCTV footage and I would go under investigation if I’m found out.

At the same time it’s risky to tell the truth. I don’t know if I can withdraw a request to report a crime at this point especially for something serious as assault. I also don’t want to get attacked by my former friend, maybe I could tell the truth and ask them to not pursue the case?

Any UKcels with knowledge of the law?

Well if the report is already made, then the investigation is gonna go, the time will vary based on the investigator; better for you to just tell the truth and when asked to press charge, don't press it if it concern you that much
Btw if you have such shitty friend why not press charge

But I made the report already

Can I just withdraw it?
you can tell them you don’t want to proceed but if they believe there is enough evidence for a case to be made or investigating it is in the public’s best interest which it will be in an assault case like yours they will proceed on their own regardless of your cooperation

alright but right now they’re operating on false information from the hospital. Should I go speak to them and tell them that is false but I don’t want to proceed?

That’s not how it works in the UK, the victim doesn’t choose whether or not to press charges in a criminal case. The police or CPS will press charges regardless.

Shit advice.

It is an offence to give false information to the police.

Section 5(2) of the Criminal Law Act 1967 provides:

‘Where a person causes any wasteful employment of the police by knowingly making to any person a false report tending to show that an offence has been committed, or to give rise to apprehension for the safety of any persons or property, or tending to show that he has information material to any police inquiry [commits an offence].’

This offence is punishable with up to 6 months imprisonment.

It’s probably what I’ll do, not even a gang I’ll just a bunch of troublesome teens, I did not go to the station so they sent me an email saying a local inspector will contact me which I hope is via call and not to my home
