Hey guys, so my opthalmologist referred me to a local strabismus surgeon, but looking online he’s not really prestigious and I can’t find any feedback about him. He’s affiliated with a public state university medical center btw.
While I was researching I found one that had a better education, looks a little more “qualified”, has published academic literature, and he’s affiliated with a prestigious private university medical center.
So my appointment with the first one is in about a month, but I’m starting to wonder if I should try and see the other one. I’m completely new to the US medical system so I don’t really know how this would work, don’t have insurance either so its going to be out of pocket.
My family is paying for the surgery but we really don’t have much money at all. So I don’t know if bringing up the 2nd surgeon I researched would come off as being difficult or asking too much. But then again this is a procedure that can have complications like double vision and has a fairly high relapse rate. What do you guys think I should do? Should I talk to my family about the 2nd surgeon I found online? Or does the 1st one sound good enough?
Most important of all, how do you go about “vetting” a surgeon for such an important procedure?
