No one's ever talked about this, do y'all think consuming a bunch of gelatin everyday is good for skin?

Gelatin is made of collagen. but Gelatin is a degraded form of collagen with shorter amino acids, so you won't actually see any Collagen gains in your skin, unless you are deficient in amino acids or something (you're probably not).

This goes for supplementing with collagen as well. It's broken down into aminos when you eat it, so unless you're deficient in aminos (you're not if you're eating meat and animal products), it's not going to affect how much collagen your body produces.

So collagen supplements are a scam?

“While traditionally it was believed that all ingested peptides and proteins were digested down to their constituent amino acids in the human gut, it is now apparent that certain peptides can cross the intestinal epithelium under normal conditions, enter the circulation, and exert systemic effects including antihypertensive, antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant effects, among others. 19 , 20 , 21 Collagen is a well‐established human food source of peptides, some of which appear to enter the blood intact 22 , 23 and have a range of bioactive properties”

Just to muddy the waters here…

I stand corrected.

I stand corrected.

It’s an interesting discussion also whether you should spend a large amount on “bio active” collagen supplements which are supposedly “engineered” to be absorbed whole and have beneficial effects… or just spend the same money to get ten times as much “normal” hydrolysed collagen and hope that the good fragments happen to be in there.

Eat beef bone broth instead, it mogs gelatin collagen content to the grave

Idc about collagenmaxxing, but I eat copious amounts of gelatin anyway. It works better than any OTC pain reliever, calms my nervous system down when I'm stressed and helps a lot with recovery of muscle, bone and connective tissues. Probably the only healthy habit left in my life

You’re probably deficient in glycine
