Was it appropriate for my parents to tell me to not message children online? Did I over react by reacting in outrage?

I am a 25-year old man who is doing a masters degree. I never had a girlfriend in college. Last time I had a girlfriend was in H.S.

My sister brought up "to Catch a predictor" and my dad and mom looked at me and warned me to not fall into sting operations involving kids. I found this very unusual and I had an argument with my parents.

Was it appropriate for my parents to tell me to not message children online?

ALSO I did have one sexual assault allegation tho. by some 40 year old.(I believe that I was falsely accused)

i think so. especially if you're on social media. a lot of these girls are extremely sexual these days and on snapchat in particular from what ive seen, they have no qualms about talking to older guys and posting risque pics
