The hostages remain kidnapped, the people want the war to end at all costs. He's thrown out any political rapprochement with Arab countries through the Abraham Accords. He's attacked a sovereign state allied with the West, and now he wants to invade Gaza. It's just JFL. It was a terrible move for Israeli citizens, no doubt, but the government did it deliberately, because they want to be hated.

One reason would be to rally people around Zionism: “See, everyone hates us, we need a homeland.” Another reason is that some knesset members are extreme, doom driven thinkers who prefer isolating the country in the hope of bringing about a messianic outcome. In their logic, destroying al-Aqsa to build a temple is part of that plan to speed up the coming of their messiah. This war is a pre text for all of their ideas.
