But then the question is, on what level do we get rid of the search for truth? Do we search for the truly useful to believe, or do we search for the truly useful to believe useful beliefs, or do we search for the truly useful to believe useful to believe useful beliefs, etc?

The point is the principle "we shouldn't believe what is true, just what is useful" combined with the fact that we need to find what is actually, that is, truly, useful, combines into an infinite regress of more and more practical ways of thinking, by replacing the "truly" element with a "useful" element (which itself adds another "truly" element).

Another problem is that our actions are lead by what we actually believe, and not those opinions which we would think useful to believe.
For instance, if a monster was around the corner, you could recognize that it would be useful to believe there is no monster around the corner while hiding in order to not shake as much, for instance, so you can make less noise and hide more effectively, but that wouldn't be sufficient to actually act on that opinion. We would be forced to acknowledge what we believe. In order to act on a useful idea, we would need to convince ourselves somehow of it's truth. So sophistry (that is a wrong but convincing style of argumentation) could be useful for this purpose.

What do you guys think? Is the truth worth chasing just because it is true, and why if you think so? Or should we find those opinions which it is most useful to adopt and force ourselves through tricks to believe in them?

The truth IS objetive and usefull always

If you're not getting anywhere It is simply cause you didn't found shit, Just consumed a bunch of non sense on yt

Personally I would chase the absolute truth, and not the useful truth. We humans are intelligent enough to understand even hard truths, and we have done it before (for example discovering that the earth is round and not flat). I think it is important to see the objective and absolute truth so that we can act accordingly. In my opinion truth is a more powerful guiding principle than usefulness.

What about the case I gave, when you are trying to hide from somebody? That is an example when the fiction is more useful than truth. So it can't be always useful.

"More powerful" in what sense? As in more useful?

nture of truth is once you know it you can't force yourself to believe the lie. you are advocating avoiding the truth under the assumption that the lie "might" be better for you? lol

the only thing that is useful is penis in vagina. shape your beliefs around this

Who said I'd be assuming it? That is the whole point: you'd need to find what opinion is most useful for you. In your case, it'd be shaping your beliefs around what is most useful for getting pussy, even to the detriment of what is true.

But yeah, a bit of reality does force itself on you. I can't believe I'm not typing on a computer right now, that forces itself on me. But not everything is as immediately convincing is that, most truth is way, way harder to find and hence it is much easier to believe in fiction, and even force yourself to believe in fiction by convincing yourself of it's truth by searching after the fact for arguments explicitly in it's favor.
