What actually drives us to not end it all?

A lot of people with horrible lives don't end it all, but why? For example, I knew this guy whose parents worked 14 hour shifts at some factory (yes both at the same factory) and he had a grade 1 level of education, smoked since 10 years old and on top of all that was a 5'3 subhuman. Bullied every day, no friends and practically homeless, but he never killed himself. There is definitely a lot of people who live like that, so whats giving them any will to live at all? I mean at the end of the day they're just the bad nodes in the evolution cycle.
