FME: tooth borne via an external face mask
MSE: bone borne with mini implants
MARPE: mini implants in bone and teeth
SARPE: fully bone borne after surgical cuts in the maxilla

FME and MSE can only be used on children (since they have malleable sutures).
MARPE is for adolescents whose sutures are partially fused but still responsive to skeletal expansion.
SARPE can be used on adults too since it surgically separates the fused suture.
