Not quite, since the observers / experiences you identify with don't need to be connected to your brain. You can identify with "other" people's experiences. What makes it valuable to you is just the fact that you are experiencing it, it doesn't have to do with the brain necessarily, but then the question is what are "you", and this is where identifying with others becomes important.

And of course evolutionary biology can explain why emotions exist, but those emotions also necessarily contain the idea of the self, and so any good concept of the self must incorporate and explain these in it’s definition.
