Not colouring (genetic). But eyes hooding and eyebrow position is determined by things such as exposure to sunlight (mainly), bone mass (regulated by diet) and bone layout (regulated by facial posture).

I would distinguish genetics and environment in these pictures. Gandy is environment imo and the statue is genetic.

I think you can always tell from the radix (I think that's the name of this area), if it's too far inside like gandy it's very likely due to for example a poorly developed maxilla because of mouth breathing.
