What country is good for studying abroad for a year?

Thinking about Japan I would have 2 years to learn the language. China would be interesting too but I'm not sure I would like it

I studied half a year in Czech republic (erasmus semester) and it felt great. Lots of international students and shit was cheap there compared to Norway. Other former classmates of mine have said Mexico, Costa rica and Spain were good too.

Those countries are very expensive though, but probably a really great experience if u like east asian culture.
