What is the actual cause of a wide jaw from the front?

I know from a side profile a long ramus is good and a low gonial but how does this actually correlate to jaw width? I think chin is a part of it but some guys have smallish chins and wide ass jaws. Is it from ramus length, jaw body length, FWHR?
