What is the ideal temple area in respect to the hairline? Should it be straight down, should it curve in a bit, how much, what does it depend on?

IMO it doesn't matter aslong as it fits the face and has harmony

Square and no recession

Doesn’t matter as long as it doesn’t look like you are norwooding.

Ideally from the front view your forehead is broad and not narrow

one that fits well with the rest of the skull

one that aint balding

also its hard to get a hair transplant in that corner, surgeons find it difficult to do

Short square faces should have prominent temples points.

Longer faces can get away with not so great temple points.

Overall everyone needs some sort of temple point to frame their face.
